Fire Grant Support is an avenue for fire departments to provide firefighting and emergency response needs for its personnel (full-time or volunteer) and for non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. For most departments, it is a 90/10 split on financing which means the grant will pay for 90% of the cost and the local entity pays 10%. Items that have been requested in the past and this doesn't list all of them, are; bunked gear from gloves and boots to entire outfits, hoses, pump parts, valves, self breathing apparatus, jaws of life and cutting saws. It can also be used for training as well as vehicle acquisition. The funding period is generally open for a 6 week period from mid March to early May. Awards are through the Senators and Representatives' offices starting in July and awarded each Friday until the funds have been used.
